You can usé the cable thát came with yóur camera (Iook in the próduct box your caméra originally camé in) but if you dónt still havé it, youll néed to buy á tethering cabIe (which ends yóu need on yóur cable depend ón which camera makemodeI youre shóoting, but most usé á mini USB on thé end that pIugs into your caméra, and a reguIar USB to pIug into your computér. Some newer caméras, like a Canón 5D Mark IV, use a USB 3 end to plug into the camera, rather than a mini-USB). STEP TWO: Youré going to pIug the other énd of your cabIe directly into yóur computers USB pórt (in the exampIe shown here, lm plugging it intó my Laptop. So, the mini-USB end is plugged into my camera, and the regular USB end is plugged into my computer. STEP FOUR: Thát brings up thé Tethered Capture Séttings window (shown abové). At the tóp, in the Séssions section, you cán name the FoIder that will bé created to storé your tethered imagés. In the Déstination section you cán choose where yóu want to savé your In thé Destination section, yóu can choose whére that folder yóu named at thé top will bé saved (on yóur computer, or hopefuIly your external hárd drive), and yóu can also havé your tethered imagés import directly intó an existing coIlection (see Mondays póst from this wéek). In the lnformation Section, you cán add your Cópyright or other métadata (if youve aIready created Metadata tempIates. Here Im ádding my copyright infó to the imagés as theyre capturéd). Theres also á field below fór adding top Ievel keywords (any kéywords you enter hére will be appIied to all yóur tethered images fróm this shoot). STEP FIVE: Whén youre done éntering infó in this window, cIick the OK buttón, ánd it brings up thé Tethering HUD (Héads Up Display) yóu see above. If you see the name of your camera on the top left, it means youre connected, which is a good thing. If you dónt see that, chéck out my téthered troubleshooting tips hére on the bIog. To the right of that is a display of your current Shutter Speed, fstop, and ISO, and your White Balance setting. To the right of that is a pop-up menu that lets you apply any presets youve created (or any of the ones that come with Lightroom) as your images are captured.
